Commenting about the report, Liberal Democrats Spokesperson, Councillor Adeyemo said:
"Firstly, my deepest condolences to the family of Baby JS. Losing a child, especially under such circumstances, is something that no family should ever have to face.
“Everyone concerned with this extremely sad case are constituents of mine. I knew Baby JS personally – a lovely baby who always smiled at me. The families are understandably still very upset and grieving the death of a loved child. I have been and will continue to do whatever I can to support them in any way that I can.
“Unfortunately, we must all face the awful fact that this is yet another avoidable death of a very young child.
"The Solihull Safeguarding Children Partnership's Local Child Safeguarding Practice Review into the death of Baby JS highlights very serious failures, yet again, by Children's Services at Solihull Council, with many 'red flags' either missed or ignored.
"The report also raises serious questions about 'Unconscious bias concerning female perpetrators of domestic abuse' – gender bias against the father. This was clearly a significant factor affecting how Children's Services approached this case, obscuring serious warnings from the father that could have saved the life of little Baby JS.
"This is a really damning report and many of the concerns have been raised before – failure to act despite repeated warnings, parents being ignored, urgently-needed support not provided. The father's concerns were ignored repeatedly and the vulnerable mother was not given the support that she needed.
"This cannot keep happening in Solihull.
"Ultimately, this is about the protection of children in Solihull. Children’s safety must be our number one priority and I will continue to challenge Solihull Council to do better. Our Children deserve better."
