Councillor Adeyemo's call follows a march by a group of protesters on Sunday in Solihull Town Centre. There have also been reports of incidents and intimidation of local residents in the north of the borough.
"Like most people in the UK, I am shocked and saddened to see the mindless rioting, violence and intimidation in several of our towns and cities.
"Yesterday, there was a group of protesters in Solihull Town Centre, some of whom were carrying unpleasant banners. Thankfully, the march passed relatively peacefully. However, there were a number of incidents later last night that could have ended up worse.
"In this current situation, emotions are heightened and it is imperative that we keep calm heads and not get carried away by divisive rhetoric. Here in Solihull, all of our local communities have always lived together in peace. We are stronger together and we must not allow the good relations fostered over many years to be damaged by those who are bent on dividing us.
"With this in mind I visited a number of our community hubs last night to make sure they were OK and to and also to offer my assistance in any way that I could.
"I also witnessed last night, a couple of incidents close to the Town Centre that could have escalated but for the prompt action of West Midlands Police and local community leaders. I would like to thank in particular, the incident commander and officers from West Midlands Police who were calm, firm and professional in the way that they dealt with these incidents, ensuring that they were contained and did not escalate.
"In such times, we must work even harder to keep that peace and ensure that every person, whatever their background, can live and work safely in Solihull without fear of violence or intimidation.
"That is why I am working with other councillors and community leaders to put Solihull first and help ensure that the mindless violence, intimidation and destruction seen elsewhere in the country does not spread to our borough."
