Sunny Virk Calls for a Modern Police Station in Solihull Town Centre

Sunny Virk - Lib Dem Candidate for Mayor of the West Midlands

Liberal Democrats' Mayoral Candidate Sunny Virk has announced that when elected, he would ensure that the Solihull Police Station is not closed, but re-developed into a more modern, state of the art facility.

Speaking about the proposal Mr. Virk said:

“Ensuring our police are well funded and have modern state of the facilities - is key to fighting crime.  I will not let Labour close the station down; and where the conservative local authorities, Mayor’s office and MPs have been unable to stop the closure, the Lib Dems will.  A new and modern station is what Solihull (and its surrounding areas) need.”

“Stopping this closure will be my key priority, and people of Solihull are fed up with the station closure being used as a political football to garner votes by Labour and Conservatives.

"Having spoken to residents I believe people are fed up that nothing has been done and come election time both Labour and Conservatives make a raft promises they do not keep.

"People in Solihull are not willing to be manipulated any more and have seen the great work Lib Dems have done locally.  Solihull has voted Lib Dem in the past, and is now yearning for the good representation they had when Lorely Burt was the Lib Dem MP in the area.”

Commenting on this proposal local Lib Dem Councillor Ade Adeyemo said:

“I think the proposal to build a state of the art and fit for purpose station on the same site is a genius move by Mr. Virk; and demonstrates he is aware of the wider context of his role; and knows how to use both soft and hard political power.

For several years the residents of Solihull have been blighted by the threats of our police station closing.  It is finally great to have Mayoral candidate that the region can rally behind and stop this closure.”

In other comments: Sunny has said that “you can’t trust a Conservative party which oversaw the PPE wastage and became embroiled in Party-gate.”
